Hi everyone. iv tried a few times to grow herbs...nothing..never. 0% success . what coukd i be doing wrong..for the last 2-3 years this is what i have done. first time i built a lovely herb box and planted various seeds in compost from the shop. next time i tried growing them in soil from the garfen .then this year i have built a massive herb bed with a mix of conpost and soil and still nothing. the only thing i have managed to grow is wild herb that i transplanted from my feild. any general advice would be mucb appreciated as im quite a keen cook and love fresh herbs but im such a failure with them.

I find Basil, Marjoram, thyme, chervil handy enough....what exactly are you doing ?I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

I think its a bit early and cold for one thing, start them indoors. Yes one parsley seed makes a whole plant, I prefer the flat leaved for flavour. Have you considered buying small plants from a garden centre, they are quite cheap.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

Do you have a slug problem there?
It may be that your tender seedlings are being devoured before you even get to see them, but the transplant is big enough to survive a bit of a nibbling, hence why it survives?

After you have sown the seeds are you keeping them watered or letting them go dry ? they need to be kept moist until they have grown a good root system then they should be able to fend for themselves.

I have never seen any green! I watered thr soil if that helps...whats cheap in the uk bill? They seem to be 3 euros for a 14cm pot over here with the choice of parsley or basil.....ant thats about it. i consider that to be quite expensive for a herb?
