Fennel question

Hi,
My next door neighbour has a massive fennel in the garden. It comes back every year and is already about 3ft high. The previous lady who lived there said it was an ornamental fennel
I have looked on line but can't find anything on ornamental fennels.
I was wondering if the fennel I plant if I leave it would it come back every year. On my second plot I am thinking of having a herby area. So I was wanting to plant something like fennel would I be ok to leave some of it to come back year after year.
Thinking of putting some mints and the fennel together. Get a nice liquorish all sort type of smell going . Yep my favourite sweet and its the only ones the kids don't like

I had a bronze ornamental fennel put in the garden when I had it replanted. It was short lived but looked beautiful. It didn't re-seed as I used the seed heads in cooking!
The other kind of fennel is Florence Fennel - you eat the bulb.

I grow the herb fennel its a perennial so mine might be the same as your neighbours I use the leaves and seeds in cooking.

Approx 4 years ago,I grew bronze fennel from seed,now have got 2 lovely plants,come up every year,get no special treatment,they even had a move,

So if I plant my fennel and leave it would it come back next year? or if I let it go to seed would that work?

Sounds the 'herb fennel ' , which comes back every year, I even moved mine last winter and it's fine, gets quite tall, about 5ft,but is lovely to cook with, and looks pretty to.

I leave mine to go to seed then dry the seeds for cooking, the plant sort of turns into dead looking sticks so I cut those down to the ground. Come spring the plants starts to regrow
