Bay tree

The large bay tree in the veggie patch has brown crispy edges on 90% of its leaves. I thought it was wind burn because it dose take the brunt of the north wind over the winter but the brown crispy edged leaves are all over, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better now we are well into summer. Any ideas?
Do you prune bay trees? If so when?
Any help would be great the poor fella isn't looking happy

Given where you are it could be wind burn. How far from the coast are you?

I have several bay tress and they are as tough as old boots, I prune mine anytime. However I clip individual pieces because if you cut through a leaf if dies and looks horrible. Mind you that's because mine are grown as ornamental standards, I probably wouldn't bother if it was a large bush. I am on the south coast and never had wind burn, but then again I am quite sheltered.

I have had brown edges on bay leaves and the cause was it got too dry.
Wind may have had a contributory factor as it is in a position where wind can get funnelled.
However since I added more soil to the bed, about 3 or 4 inches, and throw the occasional bucket of water at it when things get really dry I have not had a problem.
