  • Thyme and Thyme again

...they don't come up. I sowed one packet half a dozen times over a few years and I've now brought fresh seed but i have yet to see one sprout in a fortnight. Help, has anyone got any tips?

Buy a plant and take cuttings! So much easier than seed.

I've always found they germinated well in a degree of warmth and not too wet. I have never soaked them just plonked them on moist compost and covered with a light layer. They will grow through vermiculite too. The first lot I tried were Mr T's seed and they are growing away happily on the lottie in their little patch.

I've grown from seed for the 1st time this year and they were sown in a container and placed on the window sill. Germinated well but were slow to make growth in the beginning but I now have 5 lovely little plants.

Hooray! there are two minuscule seedlings poking out the vermiculite! OK, may take a while 'till I taste thyme and orange glazed carrots again -but a start nonetheless!!

                planting thyme in garden?

                Hi
I have a thyme in a pot, I keep repotting it, but its getting bigger- if I plant it in my garden, will it get out of control or keep to a reasonable size?
Do they do ok in the garden rather than a pot?
                thanks

They can get quite big but not uncontrollable. Planted out, I find they last a couple of years then die off in patches till there is nothing left..
