Herb bed

I posted a tread a week or so ago about ideas for my herb bed. it has now been built and i planted out seeds today.

I cant sow anything inside as i have a very small house and no space for a green house so everything has to go straight outside.

i got 15 packs of seeds of ebay and have planted everything in the raised planter - mint, basil, corriander, chives, rocket, feverfew, marjoram, borage and thyme. it is all proberly been planted at the wrong time of year ect but we will see.

I am sure it will germinate just fine. Just watch out for the mint as it can try to take over if allowed to.

I would dig up the mint as it comes up and put it in a pot, then put it back in the ground - it is rampant and will bully your other herbs. Basil, can be hit and miss outside, so don't be surprised if it doesn't show up - there is a purple basil that does well outside but the traditional greens suffer from slugs etc. If the seeds fail, don't worry, get down to the garden centre and get the small pots of herbs, chives, thyme and marjoram spread fast and lovely ground cover and flowers. Try some fennel herb too, it grows large and works as a good screen that you can cut down in Autumn.
