Hi, expecting some lemon balm plug plants soon and just wondered should I put it in my herb bed with others or pen it in on its own as it spreads a bit like mint

Lemon balm - where to plant

it does spread....but mainly if you let it flower and seed, or if you allow the outermost stems to lay on the floor.
Lemon balm grows considerably higher than mint and is quite dense so may shade out some of your more delicate herbs.
If you are growing for hens, cutting it back frequently to throw in a run, the spreading may not be an issue but the shade still will..
I'm building a new walk in run and planting lemon balm inside and around it. My girls tend not to eat it much (preferring the copious amounts of spinach and cabbage leaves they get) and since it's for them anyway....saves me carrying it about.
