Is this a herb???

Hey, i found this plant while on a walk in the Scottish countryside growing everywhere, its highly scented and the bees seemed to love it judging by the 40 odd over a foot patch of the stuff.

At first i thought it was a type of thyme by the flowers but the leaves are all wrong. any point me in the right direction ?

Agree with VC. Is this a plant you found in your own garden? I thought it was illegal to dig up plants from the wild, however prolific.

"Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is illegal to dig up any wildflowers anywhere in the UK. We can still pick a flower or collect a few seeds or take a small cutting of common wildflowers, but only if there are plenty of plants there. "

Yes I agree with VC. Ground ivy. It's edible, though I've never tried it, supposed to taste a bit minty, a bit bitter. I ought to try it 'cos it's supposed to be good for tinnitus, which I have permanently in one ear, and now and then in the other.

That's true, but let's face it, ground ivy is so hard to get rid of once you've got it that in a few months alanmac will be able to replace what he took with interest, if he can find there's any space left where he took it from.

I've been hoping for this weed to appear in my garden, as I read it's a bee favourite. No such luck yet though...
