  • Herbs on toast, yummy!

Grew some chives this year, they have done really well.
I have soft cheese or pate on toast for breakfast.
Chopped chives sprinkled on add a nice flavour.
    Sometimes chop a mushroom thinly.

Thinking of garlic chives next year.

Anyone suggest different herbs that might work on toast?

Squash a tomato/garlic on your toasted bread then sprinkle with either Basil or Oregano thats one of my faves.

Thyme and a little lemon juice make mushrooms on toast absolutely heavenly!

Some stlightly dodgy Basil as well.
          Thanks for the tips.
I guess the idea is experiment.

            Dill?

The Dutch have aniseed powder to put on their toast...so dill might work?

Be nice with a bit of egg or smoked salmon / pickled herring like the Icelanders do?

All my Chives have died back.
So I have dug a few up and potted them in the Green House.
Hopefully I might get some early ones.

I always grow some in black flower buckets, use the ones sown in the ground during the growing season and then bring the potted ones into my porch during the colder months. Parsley, chives and garlic chives all going strong.

My chives this year turned out to be spring onions! So I'll have to wait another year to try your soft cheese idea - sounds delicious though!!

Rather partial to a toasted bagel with soft cheese and thinly sliced mushroom as the chives are offline at the moment.

Have you tried growing Italian flat parsley?
It has a much more delicate flavour compared to the Curley one.
Yummy with toms on your cream cheese bagel!

Chervil? It's got a nice aniseed flavour and it likes it cool so it can give you that herby kick when most other hebrs are out of season
