  • Broad leaf sorrel advice

I purchased a small pot of broad leaf sorrel that has roots comming out the bottom so it needs either planting outside or potting on in larger pot. The question is, my garden seems to be more akaline than acid (the latter the plant prefers) so not sure if planting out would be bad. Having said that, the red leaf sorrel I have planted out in the semi shaded, damp part of the garden is doing very well and thriving so perhaps not strictly true it liking acid soil.

If on the other hand I pot it on, should I use ericaceous compost ? Any tips from experienced growers would be welcome as I love adding it to salad pickings.

I would plant it in the ground. It's tough and has a huge tap root. It's related to docks.

It is tough as old boots. It will grow anywhere.

If you have a large pot try cutting it into smaller plants.
I love it, it has a delicious lemony flavour. Great in fish dishes and gives a fresh tang to salads.

I planted several red veined sorrel, tasted then, dug them up and binned them. I thought they tasted of grass.
