Watering Herb but water doesnt Drain

Have I done something wrong ,

I replanted the herbs in 1 litre pots with multi purpose compost with john innes and some grit

I am not sure why its not draining , I didnt over water but I am sure some water should have dripped off

Just to get it out of the way the ports does have drainage holes in it doesn't it?

How much water did you give it? Have you tried standing it in water to give it a good soak first?

yes they do have drainage holes , I would say about 60 ml per pot at a guess , I havent stood it in water no. Could it be that the grit is not at the bottom

Of course you won't get root rot! Stop worrying
That might happen if you left them standing a bucket of water for weeks but as long as they have drainage and the holes are not flat on the ground so that nothing can drain out anyway, they'll be fine.

Just how wet is the compost in the pots, take a good pinch and squeeze it between your fingers, this will give you a good idea.

The hole seem to be compacted with chunks of soil maybe i need to sieve the compost more ? and replant

Or stick a pencil up the hole to free it off......

Stop panicking tomorrow it will need watering again in this weather, do as suggested and water from the bottom, if after 10/15 minutes it is still dry you will know for sure you have a problem, if the compost as taken up water then you are OK.

60ml per pot isn't much. Try the simple things suggested. There's no point giving yourself extra work that isn't needed.
