Having gleefully harvesting loads of JA's today I cooked some up to find that I don't really like them that much

I am happy to give tham away to good homes, either for growing or eating.
Going to keep about 6 back to grow again as I think they make lovely plants, but have got a few kilo in total to offload.

Personally we've found that if you peel and chip them, then parboil before frying the wind doesnt get too bad and the flavour is fab, a bit like a nuttier tasting chip, very nice indeed!

Another Mrs Steel Gut here. I love the soup and also like to mix them with spuds in a mash.

It seems that people's reactions differ in intensity, but basically you can feel the wind building up as it travels through the guts, and it can become very uncomfortable.
Best not to stand too near a naked flame once it's worked it's way through the system!!!!

But remember everyone is different!!

Not bothered at the thought of wind, but I wasn't too keen on the taste.

Remember they don't store at all well... best to dig them up as you need them, don't dig the whole crop up like you would potatoes.
Save your smoothest biggest tubers to replant next year.
Even if you don't like the taste, they have pretty sunflowers, and make good windbreaks/screening

Store them in the ground. I dig mine from Christmas till February/March and at that stage I pick out a few of the best to replant. So the new crop for planting are out of the ground a mere few days.

Do you plant them in the same place each year?

I do now. I used to move them around the garden with the result that I got odd ones cropping up here and there - worse than odd spuds! I now grow them in a short row (only me eating them) between my garden and the neighbour's - at the edge of my veg plot. They make a good screen and windbreak for most of the summer and autumn. (And then in the winter they release all the wind at one go!)
