Parsnips offered - free!

I tried a germination test on last year's parsnip seeds - nothing!
Bought new (only Wilko's but their other stuff has done well for me). They are 'use by 2010' but I know from experience that once opened I shan't get another year from them. They are Hollow Crown.

So - anyone like a few? There are 500 in the packet (Blimmin' eck!) so I think unless anyone's got a smallholding I should be able to let 4 or 5 people have enough for a decent sowing. Send me a pm with your address if you'd like some - don't bother with SAEs - it gives the PO a double whack!

Sorry for being nosey but how long are you supposed to wait before germination can take place with the pre-germination in damp kitchen roll method. I normal sowed in January some of my unopened packet of White Gem bought last year but it took ages to germinate and they weren't as many as sowed. Just last Monday, I pre-germinated the White Gem although I have fresher seeds from Read Seeds thinking the latter would keep for next year. You say once you open the packet, that's it as Real Seeds are not in foil packet.

Just my experience veg4681. I know they are supposed to be viable for 2 more years but I also know that once I've opened them I might as well give the rest away! My old ones have been 'germinating' for over a month and not a one has sprouted. I know that's a lot longer than last year - they were through in about 12 days.
