The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

I have some celery seeds. They all germinate well inside in seed compost. Mine are a few weeks old. That's as far as I've gotten.

celery i tried and tried with it until one day the old ferreo rocher box saved the day ( the flat square one) half filled with compost moistened scattered the seed then covered with vermiculite then lightly sprayed with water again put lid on during the night off during the day within two weeks i got seedlings so i slowly hardened them off then tranfered into sifted soil on the sunny side, lost a few due to slugs so be warned but they florished i just left them as they were the self blanching variety (lathom self blanching galaxy thompson and morgan) grow them in a block well i tried in a block of 16 but as the slugs had them it was sort of a block it keeps them tidy and upright more i left some in and didnt dig them up till january and they were still alive then so they can be hardly buggers,

First, eliminate every slug/snail from your garden, then you MIGHT have some success

That's good advice for a lot of crops!

I just had no luck with it germinating though, and I didn't think Celery was supposed to be that difficult?

I grow celery - in fact last year i didn't even sow it and still managed to grow some. No idea how. Not arguing with it; and it has survived the winter with no problem and I'll be using it for soups/cooked dishes soon.

I am currently trying self blanching celery from real seeds.

i pretty much sow about 20 seeds in one pot; water the soil from below and leave. When they are a couple of inches tall, plant out and apart from plenty of watering, I just let them get on with it.

I'll harvest alternate ones as they grow for soups and leave the others to carry on. Sometime they blow and I'll chop them back; using any good ones for food; and they grow back pretty well. Mulch around them to keep the moisture in. Apart from that, not much else.
