Helo Grapes!

I got these in some fruit from Tesco. Have no idea about the plant and may struggle without a greenhouse. They were sweet like a pear, round shape and soft like a kiwi. Have them if you want or WHY.

seems to form a massive tree when fully grown - but would be interesting to grow for talking point and perhaps in a container to confine growth to shrub size?

Noticed that the latex stuff which can be got from trunk is called chicle and wondered if this is the same ingredient in some chewing gums.

I'd have a go yourself - if you have room/interest - and if any left over or of no interest perhaps 'donate' a few here for something else you're looking for. Good Luck - sounds like a good project!

I bought some of these from Tesco today .............very intrigued by them. I found a webpage that may help propagating etc. Also picked up some 'Rambutan' whilst I was there......haven't tried them yet though. Has anyone got experience of growing them from seed?

They are gorgeous!!! Sadly, I don't think they'd grow in the British weather, they're more of a tropical fruit. I once tried planting a mamey seed (relative to the sapodilla or "chico zapote" as I know it) when I was a little girl in Mexico City, and it didn't grow

Chikoo/Sapodilla

Hi,

I've managed to germinate 6 of these now...............took them just over a month to germinate.................but now they've nearly all got their first set of leaves. The first stem from the seed is about the thickness and sturdiness of a piece of 'earthing cable'.................best way I can describe it.

I planted the seeds in multicompost and placed in a propogator for all that time and was about to give up on them but was suprised to see one day the shiny seed popping up through the surface very slightly, as it pushed up further each day to split its case fully and reveal 2 shiny yellow/green leaves of about 1" each.

The best way I can describe them now is looking like the creature from

'Little Shop of Horrors' but without the tendrils and teeth.....................the shape of the leaves is just the same ...................just smaller.

I'll update as they grow.
