  • Salad Blue - Potato seed fruits

Those who have been watching the spud fruits thread will know I have a fair few Salad Blue fruits jam packed full of seed.

I've got one fruit reserved for Flummery and Growem - admin bits to be done nearer time.

Would anyone else wanting to try this experimental seed project express their interest either here of via PM. First come first served! As I've said with other home-saved offerings - I cannot guarantee germination status - but it will be fun.

Background - 3 rows of flower buckets planted - 2 salad blue and one sarpo uno. The middle row of blues flowered and produced fruits only - so my guess is that it may well be a pretty 'true' fertilisation - with no promiscuity with the sarpo unos - which have shown no flowers as yet - those dirty little beasts!

Back row of blues now producing flowers so I may be able to offer second wave later on.

I reckon I'll be able to service about 20 requests for a single fruit (at least 50 seeds per fruit I guess!). I'll be more generous if the interest is low and give extra fruits to those higher up the list!

Not looking for anything in particular - SAE nice! But hey - if I'm dishing out the 'blueys' I'd love to try any other varieties you peeps might have!

loveday69 - I think there should be enough for you too!

I've just emptied the first bucket - cooked and eaten - simply with salt, pepper and butter - best way to taste a spud imho - quite lovely even taking out of the equation that they were home grown.

Biggest critic - my son loved and will have with dinner later! RESULT!

I'll be emptying another bucket this week so will be asking for details soon!

I'll be aiming to give 2 fruits apiece from separate plants to hopefully ensure best results.

Even those who may end up with a single fruit will have 50-plus seeds to select from.

Perhaps we should start a thread next year regarding the results of this experiment under 'growing techniques'?

May have to close first wave list soon - reckon around 2 places left?

Possible offer again when second row 'deliver' - which 'may' not happen bearing in mind this is nature's gift.

                            Hello everyone!

I have sufficient saved padded envelopes from my many (cunning - to max freebies) purchases from T&M.

I also have a number of carelessly processed 2nd class stamps courtesy of the PO - which I have no conscience in properly recycling.

I have decided that I will send out anyway 2nd class (on principle) as it is within standard weight - to spread cheer and goodwill amongst my fellow Grapes..

I'll enclose a note to say whether I'd like to try any of the bits you have on offer for swaps - taking my chance if you've run out. Any of you who don't get a 'demand' perhaps I might ask you some time in the future if you advertise something of interest to me to send without sae? This will save on costs, extra envelopes and put the pile I have to good use!

'Nemo' you get lucky this time as well. I've also had to ensure that this variety of spud would normally be delivered to Ireland as some are not premitted to be imported - this variety OK according to T&M - so assume same for seed.

There is sufficient seed fruits to service all requests so far - 2 fruits from separate plants, 1 lge, 1 sml, hopefully to maximise success rate!

The hoped for second row have all shed their flowers so no more fruit I'm afraid.

With this I wish you all - me too - success in this experiment and please share your findings on the Vine next year.

Please PM with your addresses and I'll do the rest over the next day or so - cheers!

SORRY - NO FURTHER SUPPLIES FOR THIS YEAR (2008).
