  • Wanted: Mint for my brother

    Hi,

My brother has gone mad on mint and wants a mint garden! If anyone has any I would be grateful if they could send me some. Thanks

Is he happy with just a cutting? I have English, pineapple and chocolate mint to offer if that's good enough.

Just buy a mint plant from Waitrose or Tesco for 75p, split it up into four parts and plant on into a larger decorative pot. It's just a normal garden variety, but it's great for tea and cooking.

Thrapston, it was very chocolately in smell when I first got it, but since it's grown, not as much. A nice chocolate brown leaf with tinges of green though.

              Hi Kieran

I find the best way to increase mint population is to browse around garden centres/nurseries. They usually have 3 or 4 different types. As you are browsing, nip off a length of a couple of inches. Take them home, take all the leaves off except the top 2 or 3 and dunk in water up to those 2 or 3 leaves.
In a week or two you will have roots coming out of the bottom of your cuttings - a month will see lots of roots. Pot those up or plant them where you want them and they should grow on. If you want to increase mint population, keep taking more cuttings as above.

                    Hi Stewart

Wow - sounds fantastic! I've got about 8 or 10 now I think. Would love to compare notes, and we could swap bits if I have any which would fill gaps in your collection.

Rough list: Apple mint (furry); Ginger mint; Black peppermint; Garden mint; Redmint; Chocolate mint; Basil Mint; Spearmint; Lemon Mint; Moroccan Mint; Grapefruit Mint

                    - Do message me if you're interested.

I'd be interested in some lime / orange / pineapple bits if you have some spare.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
