cuold some one please tell me if it is possible to keep pepper plants and chillie plants through the winter months

Chillis yes, but bring them indoors. I haven't managed to overwinter any but then I have only tried once so far.

I haven't tried peppers, they are the same family of plants so should work, but I don't know if you will get much fruit the next year.

Dave - be prepared for this thread to be moved - not really the right place - but.....

You can overwinter both provided you give them some tlc - they'll certainly need to be brought inside. More learned friends here will be able to say whether a heated arrangement is essential or not.

I have 4 buckets of various peppers/chillis which were potted on too late this year. Since going into new accommodations have simply flown away! Mine will be in my unheated conservatory this winter. I shall bring them away from a windowsill position when then weather gets colder. Only if there is a danger of drastic drops in temperature will I bring them in to the coolest room in the house. I'll not take straight to a living room for instance where heating will be on as that will shock the plants.

Certain types of chillis have often been sold in the past as house plants. Its only in recent times where folk have become more adventurous in their eating habits that heat of the kind that ornamentals have, previously considered too hot, has entered the 'British' food chain.
