I seem to have ended up with far too many raspberry canes - I bought 2x10 at the garden centre in order to get an early and later variety.
But I find I can probably only actually fit 10 of them in my borders (going on 18 inches between plants) if I want to leave room for a small sweetcorn patch too, as well as planned end of my garden for courgettes/squashes etc. Sadly reading spacing advice I'd read on sites (5ft between rows) I doubt I could plant two rows in my borders as they're only about a metre deep.
Varieties are:
Octavia - late season (mid July - early August)
Glen Moy - extra early (end of June), spine free canes, aphid resistant and not prone to viruses.
Also, the Octavia lot appears to have more than 10 canes by counting them, I think it looks like 19 unless they're divided much further down, I'll have a better idea when I take the plastic off and plant my own 10 this weekend. Either way I figure there's at least 5 spare from each type.
Given what they are and my lack of car I'm not keen to have to walk to the nearest post office with them so would need to be collected from Cambridge.
I'm open to suggestions for the swaps, though I figured with them requiring collection there might not be any takers but I'm always hopeful and it's worth a try asking.
