Atlantic Giant Seed

I have decided I'm going to grow the MONSTER pumpkin variety called "Atlantic Giant" or "Dill's Atlantic Giant" in my west facing front garden next year. I think it could look really good there and it would certainly give something extra for people passing by to look at! Does anyone out there have a couple of spare seeds of this variety?? I can send a stamped self addressed envelope, alternatively I have a large list of seeds that you can choose something in return from - you can find it on http://www.gardenweb.com/members/exch/veggie

Also, has anyone else tried to grow this variety? Any hints appreciated!

Crikey! No I don't have these seeds but I'll bet we'd all love to know how this one goes. Especially all we squash growing nuts on here.
That looks big enough to hollow out and make a real Cinderella Coach frame from!

I KNOW, isn't it fantastic!! It really does remind you of a fairytale world, doesn't it. I'm sure mine wouldn't grow that big but with a little help from the local stable and global warming I cn give it my best try!

I'm going to have a crack at growing a monster to, I'm so excited may be we should all have a competition next year to see who can grow the biggest, or maybe more appropriate who can eat the most pumpkin soup!!

hihihi - yes we're certainly going to have to swap a few recipes if we get anywhere near as successful as Mr Dill! I love pumpkin soup though, even though I'ld hate to cut it up...

Hi Veggie. If you want one like in the foto then just have 1 plant in your garden & limit it to 1 or 2 fruits - honest!! dig in about 2ft of well rotted muck, make sure it never gets dry, keep it warm early on ( sort of mini polytunnel would be good then you can plant earlier to get a longer growing season) & cover the fruits for as long as possible.

If it works let me know cos I've just made this all up .... only joking

hahaha - i'm sure you didn't. thanks a lot for the advice! we have a movable cold frame that'll do the job perfectly in the beginning when it's still small so i guess that'll come in handy. and i think we'll limit it to one fruit as we're really aiming for the sky here, although it's kind of scary to only have one considering the amount of slugs and snails we have in our garden...

I read that if you don't thin them out they only grow to 40-50kg rather than the 400kg which is possible.
