Just a quick thought I am afraid I have done too many plants in my first year as an allotmenteer and wondered if anyone who lived in Hampshire might like to swap some Vegetables and plants?

Hi Ed,
I'm at the Park Road Lotties in winchester, where are you? I'm normally at mine all weekend since i got it 7 weeks ago. it was a bit overgrown but had the basic infrastructure there. it had a polytunnel minus the poly so that's all covered and planted up now - always glad to chat and swap though!

Hi Lottiekness,
That's brilliant to hear you just acquired your new lottie!
I will definitely look up where Park Road Lotties are, I know Winchester fairly well as I use to go to college there.
Is there anything you are after at the moment plant wise?
Also I am currently in the process of getting some horse manure from my neighbour who has horses and alot of manue, which by the sounds of things has been rotting nicely for some time so I will try and get some extra bags for you and put them to one side if you want.
It is the watercress festival in Alresford this Sunday and I am working all day Saturday laying the slabs for my greenhouse foundations but I will most certainly let you know when I am next in Winchester.
All the best

Hello Ed and Jilly!
I popped into the lottie on the way home from work. Yes I know it was raining but i needed to check the plants in the polytunnel and sow a few more seeds.
I've got some beetroot coming up, mizuna, weeds, peas, weeds, onions, weeds, pak choi. I have planted out my cauli, brussels and brocolli (purple sprouting), sweetcorn (inside old 2ltr milk bottles with the bottoms cut out), cape gooseberry and butternut squash under a mini polytunnel.
i've got 1 summer cabbage seedling - not sure what happened to the rest!
in the polytunnel I have sungold toms, marmande, cucumber, aubergine, peppers and chillis, more cape gooseberries and a melon. oh and some strawberries that have green fruits on.
i have worked very hard in the last 7 weeks, from a plot that had not been worked in over a year and with no polytunnel covering' I have spent pretty much every waking moment there - when not at work.
it is a lovely position, right down the end of the site and sideways on to the farmers field. it had 7 raised beds most of which were covered up. a big patch just covered in weeds and an old bonfire area. I have dug and dug and weeded. Put up a shed and covered the polytunnel. There's still masses to be done.
Ed I would love some manure if you are able to save some for me, it is very kind of you. Hopefully i will have some plants that i can give you in return!

You sound like you have been very busy Lootiekness.
I am building my allotment from scratch as well, it use to be a derelict patch of grass with a whole wealth of weeds going there. I have tackled this by keeping it mowed and doing raised beds and slowly working down in sections. I am getting there and its been hugely rewarding
After work tomorrow I will have a word with my neighbour and will try to arrange for a manure mission on Saturday. I have an abundance of empty compost bags at the moment so I was thinking of filling loads of them up with poop and bringing them back to the plot.
I will PM you over the weekend and let you know once I have got it all ready to go. Its no problem what so ever, perhaps you would like some swede and more cauliflowers?
All the best
