  • Cerinthe major purperescence - free

It's the time of year for the Cerinthe to start kicking out seeds like mad. If anybody wants some just PM me. But remember - Cerinthe is for life not just one year. It self seeds like mad so once you have it in future years prepare to do a bit of pulling out.

Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

We have some in our village Britain in Bloom beds. It's a spectacular plant - again and again!

I interplanted this with Empress of India Nasturtium - it looks absolutely brilliant if I may say so.

Any chance of a picture Zazen? I have some nasties that were sold to me as seed this year as 'Black velvet' when you posted I looked up Empress of India and they look just the same as my Black velvets. So I looked up some pics of Black velvet and those pics look like mine too. I'm a great one for research but this is one of those confusing ones. Which have I got. I realise it is not critical, they still look great, but I like to know especially when they seed

Yup, here you go. The leaves are much darker than other nasturtiums if that helps. And the red flowers are delightful, the pic doesn't show just how intense red they are.

Wow. How quick can you get? Thank you. The leaves on mine are very dark but I think the flowers are darker too so I think I have got Black velvet. T & M are showing a far darker flower on their Empress photos. I reckon I'll pinch your idea of planting some with Cerinthe next year assuming I get enough seed (and if they are as profuse as others then no problem) and somebody who has asked for some purpurescence seed has offered to send me some yellow ones. Reckon it should look pretty colourful.

I've got a nasturtium that is as dark as your avatar, Sarraceniac.
don't know what it's name is though ...

My assumed Black velvet is that colour Two Sheds but with a very rich almost mustardy yellow centre round the stamens. Any help?

You shamed me into going out myself and posting a picture. Strange how forums meander. This started on Cerinthe. Looks similar to me except mine are nearly finished, they are in the hottest area of the garden hanging against a south facing bamboo screen.
