Black Bamboo

We've been looking for black bamboo for a while but the prices are extortionate.

Does anyone have a little growing tip we could have, we don't need a huge one as we like to grow it on.

We've got loads of different seeds; lots of chillis and toms to swap, and later in the season will have lots of heritage peas and beans.

PM me if so, I'd be over the moon if we could do a swap for some.

I bought one from eBay for a tenner. It died. The man gave me another though...it also died (he took cuttings, but not very well).

I also bought a couple from T&M (I think) for about £12 each.

They grow extremely slowly (that's why they're so dear, I guess).
I've had them, what, four years? and the 2 remaining ones are still only 2 foot high. Nowhere near strong enough to take cuttings from, they're ever so weedy.
Ask me again in 2013 !

Twosheds gave me a little one. It struggled for two years and has finally given up the ghost. Looks lovely in the catalogues but I've never known anyone to grow one successfully.

Will have a look tomorrow, we have some at side of our summerhouse and was thinking of trying to move some (not sure whats involved with cuttings etc). I saw them on GW on Friday and thought how ours are wasted at side of summerhouse.

It ain't easy: it's a bit of a mule to propagate, so do several.

two sheds, i quite easily take cuttings/ or dig the babies out, cos they are so fast growing, I am always doing and recycling them via ebay.......i have many different varieties of bamboos......
