Chandler

This came to me as a very rare English variety, not available commercially anywhere in the entire universe! It is dwarf in growth habit with beautiful, robust rugose foliage. The fruits are perfect orangey-red spheres of tombola size with thick walls. When picked as soon as the fruits have colored up they have a refreshing zing from their acid. When left to ripen up even more the fruits become very juicy and sweet with a lovely mild flavour. Its days to maturity (DTM) is less than 50 yet its flavour belies its earliness and it just 'whips the pants off' many other tomato varieties with a DTM double that of Chandler! It has been a real eye opener and so, so delicious!

This variety performs admirably, both in the greenhouse/conservatory environment or outdoor garden. In the garden my plants grew to a maximum of three feet high with support. The supply of ripe fruits was continuous so this extended the enjoyment over a long period. This variety is a must for any serious tomato grower!

My second plant of this variety produced fruits with a point at the blossom end. I have saved seeds from this plant separately. All other characteristics of this variety were exhibited in this second plant so there was no appreciable difference in flavor, fruit size etc.
