Hi
I have some Sorrel seeds if anyone wants some, blurb from Great Vegetable Seeds from The Real Seed Catalogue below.
I'm interested in:
Bergamot
Sweet Cicely
Salisfy
Scorzonera
Root Parsley
but open to offers
or indeed if you just want some and have nowt to offer I can do that too.
The packet from Real Seeds contained stacks so I can do a few if anyone is interested.
Cheers
Keith
'Belleville' Leaf Sorrel
We are always surprised how few people grow sorrel, and we would encourage you to try this rather fine vegetable. Very easy to grow, producing clumps of pale green leaves with a good sharp lemon flavour - great in salads, as a lettuce substitute in sandwiches (doesn't go limp) and also very good cooked in soups and sauces.
One of the earliest green crops to start in spring and perennial - once you've got a clump going it needs no attention other than when you want to eat it. Hardy, early salad. Lemony!
Hardy, early salad or cooking leaf green, very easy to grow.
N.b do not eat really HUGE quantities raw as too much oxalic acid (which gives the nice lemon zing) can inhibit iron uptake. Salad sized amounts are fine! When(if!) cooking large quantities, just discard the water as the oxalate all dissolves in the water.
Oxalic acid is also in high levels in Spinach, Swiss Chard & Parsley mind, so I don't think it is anything to worry about!
