Malakhitovaya Shkatulka seed?

Hi

After reading the Mcsee post ( the Aussie dude with the Toamtoes) and blog
I was wondering if anybody had a few Malakhitovaya Shkatulka seed that they were prepared to swap/ barter/ part with.

I have spotted a site in America where I can get them but if I was ordering from the States I would want to order additional stuff and that would have to wait to the end of the month, then by the time it gets back here.....etc

I will be ordering a bunch of the Heritage seed for next season so I could offer some of these back? Your seed, your call!

I don't have a lot of room so I would only require a couple if at all possible.

Hi Dave, if you haven't already been offered some I've got a few seeds I can spare I've also got some Grub's Mystery Green which I really like too, if you are interested. SAE will be fine, Pm me if you would like them.

Grub's Mystery Green has for years been our favourite Green When Ripe tomato, that is until this season here in Oz. To think I had one solitary seed of Malakhitovaya Shkatulka sent to me from the UK and it produced an abundance of the best GWR fruit and one of the top tomatoes we grew this year from 30 varieties. Matching it for flavour was a tomato with the variety name of Morado.

This is giving me an idea for a cross-world trial....

Grow tom here, and save from first toms harvested, send to Aus/NZ - get sown and save from first toms harvested - send back to UK and restart the cycle.

2 generations of seed in one actual year.

Would this work?

It's not a new idea, as it's been going on between Oz & USA for years. Google the 'Dwarf Project', where growers are developing dwarf tomatoes in both countries.

Incidentally and sorry if this is a dumb question but I have never grown a green tomato before, how do you know when it is ready for picking?

I'm a Green Zebra fan - it's softer when ripe! It's also slightly yellower.
