what a fab idea zaz, you have given yourself a tremendous amount of work though, but saying that if anyone can do it you can.
Please do not be shy in asking for help, you have a large number of supporters on this forum as you know, who will only be too pleased to help in any way.
I look forward to hearing more about it as it progresses
I love the idea!
Would it only be for full packs, or for smaller quantities?
I really like being able to take just a few seeds out of a pack (for tomatoes, beans, chillis, etc) so that I can experiment to see if I like them or not - if wanted, I'm happy to source and donate some resealable plastic bags for this!
Also - the admin does sound as if it might get huge? and the posting? Perhaps it's worth just trying out
and definitely collecting the "popular seeds" - i.e. overmarketed varieties...
thanks for a great suggestion!

I think I'd put a nominated number of seeds per pack, and anyone wanting to swap would send in their seeds already split; otherwise I'll be spending all my life bagging up seeds......
I'd not be dealing with seeds that you can get at Wilko for 39p for example, that's just crazy!
Still formulating how it would work so keep ideas coming!
you could choose a certain type of seed packet that people make themselves, so they're all the same. You know, those paper ones you fold etc.
A bit OCD I know, but somtimes I've lost seeds in the big seed box because of what they're contained in.
If you're up for it, I am! I would be happy to donate surplus self-saved (you always save too many) from this year, and if my home-bred tomatoes come true again, some of them can go in at the back-end of this year. (Purple mangetout peas will take another couple of years!)
Why don't you have a rule that you keep in stock no more than - say - 3 packs of each variety?
This would mean peeps could still have 'common' seeds if they wanted to take them (in return for something else), but if you already have the max no of seed packs 'in stock' of a particular variety, no one could send in another one as part of their swap.
Great idea. A lot of my spares probably fall into the common variety, but very happy to donate to charity if something on the list I would fancy.
Do have some pkts of common things ready to offer to local school, who do gardening (they have a lovely polytunnel) but if they don't want them, happy to pass on for either library or for the common pile to go elsewhere, better than going out of date in my box.
Great idea but are you sucker for punishment Serious amount of time and effort involved but a big thanks from me. I'll have seeds to add when it's up and running.
Good idea but goodness only knows how you could get it to work in practice. Assume seed packets sizes would be similar to those from the HSL which is plenty for people to take and save for themselves. Moving on it might also be possible to have a wanted section if a few people were interested in something rare and specific?
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
