I have lots of seeds - that's no secret.
I've run the seed swap parcels - we had 13 going round the country at one time; but the problem with them is that some went 'missing' in the post, or were kept by the person holding them and who have never logged in since - or you would have to wait until they eventually came round to you....which meant the sowing season was lost for some, or the postage was actually more than the seeds that you got out of the parcel.
I've also run a seed circle - where the seeds are grown and saved, and shared out between all the contributors at the end of the year. This IS brilliant but not everyone likes to save seeds themselves.
So - I was thinking of a different way.
The Seed Library.
I am willing to start a library; and publish it for Grapes to peruse. The library will also state how many seeds are in each pack.
People can peruse and select the packets that they are interested in. They then send the same amount of packets [or more] to me...with a SAE with a large letter stamp.
I will then send their choice of seeds back.
The seeds sent will come off the library [or be shown as 'taken']and the new ones added to the listing.
This means that more than one person can take advantage at one time, and the total postage comes to 64p for 2 second class stamps; and you don't have to wait weeks/months for the parcel to come round.
And if any go missing, the numbers are really minimal rather than losing loads at once.
Also, when a parcel gets too big, it can come in and be thinned out and the excess can come into the library.
If people haven't got seeds to swap, they can make a cheque donation of 50p/bag to a nominated charity* and I'll pay the cheques in all together and sum up the donations on here as we go. It will all be open and published on here.....
*to be decided....
What do Grapes think of this - would you use it?
Any flaws I've not thought of - I know it will take up space but we're ok with that.....at the moment!
