I don't have any seeds but last year I bought some hawthorn plants from wiggly wigglers, think they were about £1.95 each, very good plants and have taken strongly, the foliage is just out now. They have a good range of hedging plants. Next year if I can persuade the council not the hack the inside of the allotment hedge to shreds might even get some seed to save from some of the older hawthorns.
best wishes

Try cuttings Soobeth. One year I pruned several trees and shrubs in the spring. A bit late I know. Being of a frugal nature there were lots of nice straightish sticks which I shoved in round some herbaceous plants as supports. Guess what, some of them grew! They are now making a fine hedge with the odd maple in it in France.

Hi soobeth, I was wondering where you had got to as you haven't posted in a while! Sorry I can't help with seeds for hawthorn, but the 'whips' (young plants) can be bought very cheaply from garden centres and other suppliers. Seed can be slow to germinate and you might have to wait up to two years (see this). There is some cheap on ebay at the moment, try these.

Hi Soobeth, missed seeing you around. Hope the school stuff is going ok. Did you have to do a project?
I've not got any seedlings, but there may be some berries still on the trees along our canal, I'll have a look at the weekend. Would you like any elder berries too, I think there are still some around.
I may have some silver birch seeds for you this year too. Will pm you when I get some if you are interested.Last edited by madderbat; 19-03-2007, 07:33 PM.

Will keep an eye out for hawthorn and elder berries when the weather stops being sooo freezing (probably at the weekend). Will let you know if I can get any, and then save any silver birch seeds I find.
