  • The Seed Parcels

Just a little update for everyone.

We have bashed our heads together to try and work out a system for the seed parcels; and have done some research on the way other people do it.

The culmination of this is that we will be gathering all the parcels together, posting a list of all the seeds in 1 thread on the forum and open the swap up to anyone who wants to join in. Less rules and a faster turnaround for people.

So what will happen is this:
Thread with all the seeds listed - this will sit and be open to everyone to see at any one time.
People post that they want to join in on the thread.
They send their seeds in with an SAE, and once those are received, they will be sent the link to the current seed list, they will return to us their choice on the thread, and the seeds will be packed and sent. Then, the next person can have their choice.

This means that we can plough through the seeds faster, because we can get everyone to send their SAE's in first, and as soon as the seeds have been chosen, links can be sent immediately to the next person - so we could get through many many more seeds than at present.

Currently we only have The General and The Back to The Fuchsia parcel on the go. The other 5 - the Chilli, The Squash, The Herbs, The Roots and the Tomato are with Ginger Ninger and are hopefully on their way to us.

We have everyone's names, and the original order of request has been preserved so nobody will miss out once the parcels get back to us.

Currently, Chris and I are going to be doing this - we both visit each other's areas quite often so we can do it between us for the time being....swapping the trug as we go. I think it's my turn first but I have lots to add anyway which is good.

I know people are getting twitchy so please cross your fingers that the parcels get sent on soon to us and we can get started listing for you.

    Short update.

Chris and myself have the seed parcels, except the General who is just finishing off his missions and then coming home to base.

All parcels will be merged into 1 'Virtual Seed Parcel' and Chris is working on [get this] a website for it!

He is currently populating it with the contents of his parcels, and once he is ready, will let me have access to populate it with the contents of the ones I have...and then we will 'go live'.

    Watch this space Grapes.

I've had to do work, in work as of late.. which frankly is quiet rubbish. But now this is all public, I'll have a look at putting a reasonable design on it (I don't *do* design, edit: but what I mean by a design is, not just a white screen with a list of seeds ). Fingers crossed I don't get given anything to do today

Don't worry about design; we can change that later.

I have photos it might be nice to include....not those ones - ones of seeds....

                          Ok. Short update.

The website is coming on nicely - the parcels are returned to myself and Chris and we are furiously inputting all the bags of seed for you. We are currently at 677 bags and that's not including the General, or the Back to the Fuschia parcels.....as I'm listing those on a spreadsheet for Chris to upload in one batch.

We are anticipating that this parcel will go 'live' on New Year's Day and first refusal will be in the order that people requested the original parcels; we feel that's only fair.

So watch this space, and get your seeds to swap ready so that when we launch this, you are up and running and ready to take advantage of it.

Don't spend too much time on it over Christmas Chris. You have much more important things to do with your time.

Thank you both for all your hard work.
