  • Anyone got any Tomatillo or passionfruit seed?

    Hello All
Has anyone got any spare tomatillo seeds purple de milan (3-5 would be fine)or something similar? and also any Passionfruit seeds - edible (as many as could be spared, as I'm crazy for passion!! ), I was most upset that Kings had sold out. The package came through the door, I ran to open it and inside was a piece of paper, 'sorry sold out!' +

I have seeds for Huckleberry to swap or lots of other things, let me know what you would like and I will see what I have (too many to list here!!)

Hope someone out there can help..... thankyou

I have a passion fruit (yum yum) in the fridge and would like to have a plant.

Has anyone used shop bought fruit to grow from seed?

      Thanks

I didn't know the edible passion fruit was hardy in this country. I have loads of the decorative variety. Where did you get your huckleberry from, are you growing it from seed? Please let me know, thankyou, Jan.

My motherinlaw has a passion fruit plant, its huge and produces loads of fruit every year but I've never dared to try eating them,I always thought they were just decorative as well Littleweed?

Littleweed: I am growing Huckleberry from seed, came from Nicky's Nursery.
Tinyvine: Can you tell me anything about the Hucks. Mine look well but are small yet - late sowing.

I have spare Tomatillo seeds if anyone's still looking.

Is the Huckleberry you have the chichiquelite type?

Passionfruit seeds from bought fruit will indeed grow. Sometimes they are a little slow to germinate, and my last lot took a few weeks!. I was just about to bin the pot thinking they had rotted when I saw them just starting to poke through.

Mine weren't hardy outside, but the few I gave away are being grown in conservatories or greenhouses and are perfectly happy.

I used to have a great link to a site for the info, but it seems to have gone or be down.

                  Hi
                  SORRY!
I bought my huckleberry from Hillier's. It was Unwins, but I couldn't find it on their website. Yes it was a packet of seeds.

                    Hello
Most varieties are just ornamental, but you can buy a few varieties for eating. They are all really delicate, some can handle a cold greenhouse, or sheltered sunny spot, but most need a greenhouse. I bought the first type. Out of the 10 seeds I sowed I have ended up with one healthly plant. They take about a month to germinate. The one plant I have is really healthy, but I think I'll keep it inside. A conservatory would be perfect.
I bought the seeds from Chiltern seeds.

                      Hi
Off the top of my head, I would have to say no. I don't remember seeing that on the back of the packet. Just HUckleberry and then the latin name which wasn't that!

                        Hi Phreddy
Mine are only smallish (prob 7inchs) and have not gone outside yet, I think hardening off takes a few weeks. (sorry this is from memory as I am about 10 miles from the seed pk!) I think they can grow up to 90 cm in height. Fruit can be harvested from October, ideally after a light frost and after the fruit has turned from purple to black.
Mine seem to prefer part shade, I am still testing them, but originally they didn't like full sun at all.
I must admit I haven't found much on them, so pretty much winging it! let me know how you get on with yours. Cheers

PS Mine was also a late-ish sowing.
