  • Recommend a supplier/website for Gijnlim F1

Not sure if this is the right section to post this.
I trawled the net for some Gijnlim F1 asparagus seeds. Sent off my order only to be let-down. No seeds and no reply to communications. So, can anyone recommend a website or supplier where I can buy this specific seed. I`ve tried Thompsons and also suttons to no avail.

Personally, I'd never grow asaparagus from seed - it'll be years before you get anything to eat. I'd buy crowns, so that you only have to wait 2 years after planting before you start cutting a few.

I bought 30 Gijnlim crowns from here:

I planted them last March and they bushed up really well this summer, got quite big. So I might cut a few next summer.
    Are y'oroight booy?

Is there a specific reason for growing from seed? As Vince said you'll have a long wait. Perhaps that's why they are not readily available.

Yes. I was unable to find a crown supplier whereby I felt confident that I was going to receive the genuine variety. I looked on eBay etc. I will get some crowns from the same place as Vince.

What did you mean when you said, “Perhaps that's why they are not readily available” ? Were you referring to the seeds?

Not grown that variety but have grown asparagus from seed (much cheaper than crowns) and they established really well, only taking a year longer than my crowns to harvest so would recommend this route if you can get the seeds if you want to save some money.

Re the above post, if you do go for crowns, Blackmoor are a great company.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yes I meant as not many people would be patient enough to grow from seed, most companies wouldn't bother to stock it. Looks like you've got a couple of good links now. Fingers crossed.

Yes, I think crowns are the way to go now. Glad I didn`t order any crowns from that company that took payment and never sent the seeds.
