  • Whole Yellow Pea Seeds

Does anyone know where I can buy yellow pea seeds? It's the kind that are dried and used whole in soups. I just have a hankering for making Ertersuppe (Norwegian pea soup) which my mother made for us as children. I've tried looking online but no found any joy.
    Thanks in advance.

I saw them online somewhere recently, now where was it? .......

Ah, here! Whole yellow peas - Great British beans and peas - Hodmedods but only in very large quantities. You'd have to eat an awful lot of soup.

have you searched in grocery shops and supermarkets? Or maybe wholefood shops? I'd expect them to be on the shelves among the lentils and dried beans.

Ah, that's handy to know - knew they were yellow field peas but I wouldn't know where to find them. Might try that too.

          Lykke til!

Asian food shops and markets could be another source.

                Hi Uffda!
I can't see any whole-yellow-peas-for-growing advertised, so I would just try germinating some whole-yellow-peas-for-eating on a kitchen towel. If they sprout, I'll give them a proper go in the spring and expect to get a decent crop.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all your advice. I bought some whole yellow peas from a supermarket while in Norway recently but didn't think I could just germinate these. I'll give them a go in Spring as they seem to be hard to buy in reasonable quantities.

If they are whole with their seed coats still on, they should germinate fine, uffda, unless they are very old. I saw some in a local shop with the seed coats peeled off, so they would be no use.

I've just thought of another source in the UK if you should need one. They are often fed to racing pigeons, so you'd probably get them in a shop that sells pigeon food.
