  • Its the Smurfs, Scarlet. From memory, 3 people have had problems with germination this year. Can't remember at the mo, the source or age of the seeds.

      • I really hope they weren't any I sent in. My friends have had 100% germination from the seeds I saved last year. If any of them were mine, many. many apologies that they haven't behaved.

They might have been mine don't worry about it...we aren't tryin to sell them, just passing them on. They are all saved in good faith. Dancing with smurfs isn't a "stable" variety either which may not help especially further down the line.

That's good to know. I thought it was just me. Germination wasn't a problem, but they have been bl@@dy stropie every step of the way and a very poor yield. Not actually tried one yet but there card is marked !

              • Many thanks to the Smurf savers. There's one packet left in the VSP from Scarlet. All the rest have been shared.
Its really popular but I think its the name that appeals - everyone wants to say they're growing Dancing with Smurfs because its so ridiculous

There's loads in one cherry tomato, you will be overrun if you just save 3tomatoes.

                  • I'm wondering how much of an influence South park was on the naming of the dancing with smurfs variety

                      • Are we able to send in self saved seeds then?

All my chilli seeds at least are contained and self pollinated.

Also, are you able to swap one type for another? I.e I've got sweet pea seeds, tomato seeds, etc but need seeds from a different category....

                        • Hello Sappidis and welcome to the Grapevine!
Self saved seeds are welcome as long as they are not F1 and have been saved according to the advice for saving those seeds - like separation, avoiding cross pollination etc.
To join any of the seed swapping schemes you need to be a member for 3 months and have made 50 posts in that time. The "rules" are at http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...nce_76437.html

I have not a lot of knowledge of the seed swaps, VC will be along shortly no doubt to answer your questions, in the meantime have a look around & maybe say hello & tell of your gardening interests, location, etc in the introduce yourself thread

                              • Lol, thanks guys,

They're all seperated so should be any cross pollination

Will do, I'm a chilli head and should be here to stay, looks like one of the more active forums.

                                Thanks guys!
