There are Russian Tarragon seeds in the VSP. French tarragon is said to be better for cooking but its sterile, apparently, so can't be grown from seed.

I have an unwanted packet of Russian Tarragon, is there anything you would like to swap for them?

I wouldn't bother growing Russian tarragon to be honest. I've grown French (from small bought plants) and that's much better.

I didn't even think to check the VSP! And I didn't know there were two different types. Thanks for offering a swap @MoopMoop. I think I will wait and try and get hold of some French stuff though, as I only have a small plot so want to be sure it will get used.

The supermarkets often sell bunches of cut tarragon. Maybe this could be used as cuttings and grown on?

This is my French tarragon today. French has lush, soft growth whereas Russian is twiggier and doesn't have such a nice flavour. I hope you go ahead with it Snow, it's a lovely herb IMHO.
