That is interesting Mada, when did you sow it?
I am trying it here but I read that it is a cool climate veg. I am thinking now of growing it as an annual.

I germinated and sowed in a cool greenhouse in April. then cold frame and then planted out (with lots of slug pellets). It's in a partially shaded part of garden but damp and well drained.

In the April dry spell it did nothing - despite lots of compost - but with the rains I have stalks 0.5metres long plus leaves teh size of dinner plates. It looks pickable now.. (a few slug / snail holes in leaves) but not ripe yet...)

I too would like some rhubarb seeds if anyone has some spare ones. Would pay p&p, of course.

          Many thanks!

Hi Phreddy, I sowed rhubarb seed either two or three years ago and i am picking it ever since. It was a great success, so I would say, go for it and sow the seed.

mine isn't quite that big - bought a crown and planted it out this year - will it be pickable and cookable this year? Even if it's small?

Thanks Bramble, it is not expected to do well in the heat. A neighbour has a tiny clump, 2 years old but nothing like one is used to in UK. Thats why I am considering it as an annual.

Seedlings are coming on well though.
