    Corms are all planted...!

    I put them into one of my SFG beds ~ two per square (hope that's enough room for them..!!!)
    I forked in some Growmore, watered and put a sprinkle of Growmore underneath their little bottoms, covered over and watered again .......

    Here they are....... Yes, doesn't look exciting, but I know what's in there...!!!!

      Glad they are there - if you think those are big, just wait till you see what they can turn into...

      And your planted bed looks very swish too.

      Can't tell you how nervous I feel about all the corms - I really hope they do well for you all. I have a planter with 10 in so we can compare notes!

        Yes Sparrow, can we compare notes please? This is all totally new to me ......

        When should I expect something to start happening?

        I gave them a good drink after I'd tucked them in ~ will they need watering or just leave them? (as you know they're in beds, not pots ..... )

        I'm probably going to be a nuisance now asking questions..!!!

          No probs! You don't need to water them again unless it gets very dry - though I give mine a soak every so often. This is because flowering's triggered by falling temperatures and increased rainfall and I fondly think it might bring on earlier flowering...I have no proof of this though.

          You should see white spikes emerging at the end of September/beginning of October with thread-like leaves coming out of the end. I'm the furthest south so unless where you have them is very sheltered I should have them poking up first.

          I don't want to seem to promote my blog too much (please delete this if it is) but there are pictures of what you will see here: https://mudandgluts.com/a-crop-less-ordinary/saffron/

            Mine arrived here on Monday, all safe and sound! I planted 'em out right away (one was already starting to sprout!) in their own little raised bed, in a nice sunny spot.

            Hopefully they should like it, and bulk up to flowering size nice and fast!

            Thanks loads!

              A brilliant, most informative blog, Sparrow ~ I had read it before you know, which is what prompted me to have some of your surplus corms off you....!!
              I'm really looking forward to seeing them progress!

                Thanks SusieG - what I didn't say was I couldn't get the photos to upload, partly because the elastic bands in my elderly laptop are near breaking, so that was the easiest way of showing you what to look for.

                  First of my saffron corms poking through the soil. Growing in pots so interesting to see how they turn out.

                      I'm willing them to appear, but they're just ignoring me ...........

                                ~~~ do the shoots look like thin grass...?? ~~~
                                If yes, then mine have sprouted.........
                                If no, then I really need to do a bit of gentle weeding.......!
