How are your Buffalo Toms?

Just wanted to see who has grown the seeds I sent around last year and how you have got on. I know Scarlet has and from the pic they look good http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1477237

The reason I ask is because the bloke I originally got them from grew some of my seeds and his own self saved seeds but the fruit have yellow crowns/tops(?) on them, so just wanted to check if anyone had some odd outcomes.

I didn't sow any this year but if anyone is saving some................there are none left in the VSP!

"Yellow shoulders" is more often a sign of poor soil conditions or "sun burn" not enough shade? I didn't get it on buffalo horn. I thought they were very vigorous plants and really healthy too. Although I have experienced that problem... I had a several in a row one year when I didn't change my soil in the GH border, it was definately the position and/or soil,as I was also growing the same variety in the other GH with no symtoms.

Im trying to save them but anything I leave on the plants to really ripen is getting stolen or half eaten. then when I do get some really good ones I can't help but eat them myself!

I didn't realise it was a sunburn thing I will let him know - thank you. I am glad you like them Scarlet and they have been a fav in the VSP. Unfortunately I didn't grow any this year but with all my (indoor ) blight they might not have come to much. Hope you can get rid of your unwelcome guests soon Scarlet

Unfortunately when you see them in the GH with you during the day you know you are in trouble! Ive got loads of young ones too ...been loath to put poison down as ive seen lots of hedgehogs.

I have lots of green fruit, and they are big! Hopefully will turn red soon with all the sun we are having down south. If they do I can save some and stick them in the VSP/tom seed circle - would that be ok?

They really don't have many seeds, do they?! I've emptied 4 toms and have a small scattering of seeds but they might be destined for VSP rather than the circle.

We could go 50/50 ...ive got about 7 tomatoes ripening. Ive saved some seed already but found the same as you that there's not many seeds.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I have another 5-7 on the vine, but I bet I get a recurrence of blight soon now the temps have dropped.
