heard a bass buzzing as I looked in my gh about an hour. oooh, it's big and brown and yellow.

too dark to do anything. best way to evict it in the morning? (ideally not poisons, as I've still got crop Iin there)

Open all the windows and doors and shoo it out.

If it won't go, wait until it settles and put a glass over it. Slide a piece of paper under the glass and the hornet and, using the paper as a lid, carry the glass outside and release it.

This is what I do anyway!

The European ones are less aggressive than wasps and can be left alone.

If it's an Asian one you need to report it!

I have one in my compost bin
I have been juicing a load of apples and I thinking it is going for the pulp. I am hoping he'll just buzz off or, perhaps, fall into a cider induced drunken stupor then I can follow VC's advice

It's a European one (like a wasp at about 130% magnification and brown and yellow, not black and yellow). I did the opening window trick in the mod morning when it was awake enough to fly, but still dozy. Big buggers aren't they?

Chased what I hope is the same one out on Sunday morning too.

How exciting!!!! I've never seen a Hornet this far north (or ever come to that!).

Closest I know of them is Gosforth Park Nature Reserve
