  • Wickes greenhouse

Does anyone have any knowledge of the greenhouse currently being sold by Wickes builders merchants? It looks, to my inexperienced eye, to be well designed with plenty of ventilation.
It is an 8x6 greenhouse, the lower part is not clear, but dark green (about 18 inches I'd say from the picture) and at £199 falls into my price range (just). Unfortunately the brochure gives no advice as to the construction materials, it appears to "glazed" in a form of plastic, but I'm not sure. Any advice gratefully received.
also is twinwall polycarbonate better than ordinary plastic sheet or perspex?

    Don't know the beast LD,

If you don't want to grow short crops in winter (lettuce & the like) the fack that it isn't glazed to the ground isn't a problem. Toms will be taller than this & the sun is higher in the sky in summer as well so again, no problem.

As to glazing materials, Pollycarb & plastic doesn't transmitt quite as much light as glass but it's not different (86%Plastic to 90%glass I think roughly) so thats not a problem, The twinwall will be wamer than a single sheet but the biggest plus is it won't shatter if you (or your children or someone elses children) hit it.

£199 sounds about the average price for a 8 x6 greenhouse. Try looking at Greenhouses direct they are usually good on price. But if it's an 8 x 6 you're after have a look on e-bay there are loads there at the moment.

Failing that try yuor local paper, you should be able to pick one up 2nd hand for well under £100 let alone £200 & you usually get stuff like the benches thrown in.

You can always find it cheaper. Could get it down to £30 if that what you want to do. If it sounds good to you, and it does sound good to me, go for it. Good luck. Let's know how you get on.

Wickes could not deliver when they said, so cancelled them and bought 6x6 from B&Q. Been building since Thursday and hope to finish it today, wish me luck. No claims made as to ease of assembly

Bit late for you but isn't wickes and focus DIY the same group of companies, so might be worth looking at focus for detals.
