Polycarbonate Greenhouse

Polycarbonate sheeting is very good for lasting, as it is durable - not so aesthetically pleasing as glass of course - can't help you with off-the-peg greenhouses though, I've always built my own - you can find reviews for most things these days on the web, just by doing a Google search.

half a review
Hello,
I have recently bought a 10x6 polycarb GH- the below was on the one i opted for.

However i was due to assemble last weekend however the storms put me off.
I can say the product arrived on time and well packaged. Apologises i can t be more helpful, i will keep you update when erected. Fingers crossed next weekend.
I did find some cheaper alternatives on amazon and ebay but the reviews were terrible.

I am hopeful the above will be better.

I bought a 6x8 polycarbonate grow master @ greenhousestores.co.uk for £285 with a £10 discount voucher NEWY10. Not very easy to construct but probably ok with 2 or more people. Seemed to be quite flimsy but ok once bolted together. lost about half the panels in the storm yesterday, back together now and all of the panels survived so will need some silicon to glue the panels in. Also the glazing system which is plastic strips is very difficult to install and the ones I managed to fit were mostly the ones that blew out where the ones I used ordinary glazing clips on 4 per side fared better and are only a few pound per box. So in conclusion it functions adequately and is good value for money but I suppose you get what you pay for. They have many other options on the website and all the prices were very competitive. Good luck with your search.

We have a 12 x 6 Norfolk Greenhouse. The walls I love as are strong solid see through plastic, the roof is translucent polycarbonate twin wall.
This is third winter at 1300 feet with lot of wind. It's drilled onto concrete blocks. The weakest part is the rear window. The window needed repair and now we remove it during winter block gap with correx.
A panel has popped out in yesterday's storm but not broken.

I have never bought a new greenhouse, so I can't really say...
I have a glass one at home that I bought for £50 off Facebook, and a freebie polycarbonate on the allotment. I prefer the visual aspect of a glass one, of course, and how they fit together too. The polycarbonate one is a fairly cheap one I think, and it does feel a bit flimsy. I'm sure you can get better quality.
If price is an issue, I'd go for a second hand glass greenhouse

Used to have polycarbonate. And did really like it. till we had a storm one winter and it basically exploded. One of my neighbors was rebuilding his every spring. Think he's got rid of it now though
I think if you use sealant and stick in every panel you might be OK. If you live somewhere windy though I don't think even that would stop them getting wrecked
THE good points I liked about mine was it was double walled so didn't need to worry about insulation. Also the roof panels where a bit more opaque. So I didn't need to worry about sun shading in the summer like I do now with my glass greenhouseLast edited by Urban; 11-02-2020, 08:04 AM.

Further news on my greenhouse saga. Started construction last Saturday on my own. managed to get base, door, windows and both ends complete. However i didnt get around to doing side or roof as i need a hand.
Currently got both ends laying down on the grass in my Garden, with aim to complete this Saturday with a mate. However when i check it hadn't blown away this morning little worried few the panel have condensation within.
Hoping this will clear up when full erected and dried out?
Great bit kit so far, found it easy to assemble so far, not finished yet though.

For the polycarbonate sheets you see on car ports, etc you’re supposed to seal one end and have a breathable filter material on the other to prevent condensation and bugs crawling into the channels... not sure on polycarbonate greenhouses though whether the same ideas apply?

Hello All,
https://www.summergardenbuildings.co...-30201017.html
I got the greenhouse up this weekend in the wind and rain. It really was a test of patience and perseverance. Few catastrophes averted (windows panels popping out once full constructed, abet on is 80% in with black tap on other 20%). Also seem to have the pieces below left over, any ideas?
https://ibb.co/rdH804Y
The green metal bits are bracing for the wall to roof, hopeful i wont need this as i forgot to put the screws in the frame and only realised at the end once it was full constructed. May have to come up with a way retro fit these now.
Also not sure where the seal goes?
the instructions got rained on half way through so i had to freestyle the send half of it.
Another issue i have is the windows seem loose, they slot onto the top rail near the roof and often fall out when opened, they seem quite snug when all closed up. but i was planning on putting self opener on later.
Ive emailed the copy above asking, but id also thought i post here for some tips, advice ect.
Will get some photos later after work hopefully.

Ive just had really fast reply from company.
"Please find attached the instructions for your greenhouse.
The instructions are attached to this email in a PDF file format, please
let us know if you are unable to open the file.
The rubber seal goes at the bottom of the polycarbonate sheets on the
sides of the greenhouse to hold the polycarbonate tight against the cill
(as on page 22 of the instructions)
The roof vents have to be slid into the ridge beam from one end (there
is a particular channel in the ridge beam that the roof vent has to
connect with) as shown in step 12 on page 15. It is not possible to push
the roof vents into position as the will not connect properly with the
channel in the ridge beam. They have to be slid into position from one end."
I will try these fixed laters.
