Greenhouse sorted

My greenhouse concrete base floods badly if it rains. It's got worse over the years as the soil level outside has built up.
The GH is on bricks, so its raised by a brick width.
Got a builder to fill it with concrete to the top of the bricks.
That's sorted the problem, but I had to fork out a lot of cash. My wallet is still sulking.

Anyway I have started reassembling the benches and propogator so the gardening year is under way.

Been a bit delayed this year due to the perishing weather. We have stayed hibernating in our little burrow, only going out for essentials such as a trip to the pub!

Anyone else been delayed by the weather?

Up here I only garden in the conservatory until the end of March, so I'm not behind yet.

Too wet and windy to get out - for me that is, not the potatoes waiting to go in. Our sandy soil never gets waterlogged and the potatoes won't worry about wind for 6 weeks.

Still, the greenhouse is warm and dry to work in but gets a bit scary when the wind goes over F6. I tell myself that *usually * the glass lands outside.

Still hibernating here too. Just waiting for the weather to improve and my energy levels to go up ( hopefully in line with the temperature).

I'm behind not sown any seeds yet, I do have my potatoes chitting but that's about it.

I always used to think of Easter weekend as being the start date for sowing anything apart from chillies and tomatoes.
Suppose it was because that was the first long weekend off work?????
No greenhouse here but I too have my spuds chitting but nothing else on the go.
Not been a nice late winter /early summer has it?
Even the chooks are on strike and they are worth paying attention to as for the length of day/ hours of daylight for laying...

Only first earlies chitting,onions STILL waiting to be put into compost,to wet to do anything,even if i had the energy,time ext,life has a way of getting in the way,then suddenly dissapears,what grows does,we usually all get something,soon we will be saying it's to dared hot and plants are suffering hehehehe.

Started spuds chitting last weekend. No seeds yet, but will probably start in next couple of weeks

Might pop a few lettuce seeds in modules once I get the GH benches assembled.

Watched a James Martin program where he was starting a garden. He bought loads of packets of lettuce seeds and put them all in!

Could have been a setup but shows how advice from freinds always helps.

Perhaps he should have joined the forum.

Raising the floor a few inches cured the flooding but had a few side effects.

1. The benches now need a few inches off the legs else the propagater will foul the roof.

2. Every time I exit the GH I scalp myself on the door frame as its now lower.
Next door has the builders in so the builder kindly fished a bit of pipe lagging out the skip.
Fits nicley over the door. So now I just get a thud and not a splater of red!
