Oh My! I've just bought a greenhouse!

Second hand mind but hey ho, still a greenhouse.

Hope I've done the right thing.

It's 12 x 8, aluminium/glass with 2 opening roof windows. Also has one level shelving/staging all round it but this is a tad rusty in bits. I'm thinking I could scrub it up and maybe even spray paint the staging if need be.

Double sliding door at one end, one door slides easily the other not so much. Covered in moss and mildew but I'm sure it will clean up ok, the nuts and bolts are very clean as is the aluminium framing inside which suggests to me the structure is sound, just uncared for. No broken glass.

Cost £100. Son is giving me a hard time, telling me I shouldn't have bought it etc but I think it was ok for that money?

I need to dismantle it myself which I've arranged to do on the first decent day next week. I've done it now anyway so please dont tell me son is right. I'm already worried about dismantling/transporting it myself as I clearly wont be asking son for help!

Take photos and mark the sides so that you know which goes where once its dismantled.
Do you know anyone with a van that can move the sides in one piece rather than being stripped back to components?

Sounds a decent buy to me given the cost of a new one. Good luck with the dismantling/transporting and tell grumpy b****cks to give you a hand

You have done well. When you go to dismantle take lots of photos. Take a socket, ratchet and spanners. Also a grinder is handy. When you dismantle your priority has to be the glass (bolts are cheap and can be replaced easily.) Don't disassemble more than you have to.

It will go in a van easily. I have put a 6 x 8 greenhouse (including glass) in the back of a Micra. (Very small car).

One note of caution! Don't put a (glassless) frame on a roof rack. My husband did once!!!

Go round the day before and spray all the bolts with WD40 to make them easier to unscrew.
Replacement bolts and fixings are cheap to buy in places like W1lko.

I dismantled one and my step Dad put the frame back together again - screwing it into bricks to give me some extra height for toms. Before I dismantled I took loads of photos after I had written On the pieces so that helped. Also I sprayed every nut and bolt with WD40and when it came to dismantling the frame it was fine.
I transported it in the car - it was 12 x8.
I did have a couple of panels of glass break while taking the clips off. I had really sore hands afterwards. I couldn't get the glass out with gloves on.
I washed each piece of glass in the kitchen sink.
I bought lots of new clips. I had to replace some panes of glass - these weren't cheap and I couldn't get any free on freecycle. I had some old bits of glass that came with the GH but really old glass is hard to cut and I had quite a few breakages.
You want to make sure you have enough glass on the day you are glazing....just Incase a storm comes in with a big of wind.

Endorse previous posts but just want to emphasize:

Label EVERY pane of glass - they might all look same size but no two of mine were the same. I used front, x, y; left side (from front), x, y etc Written on glass with big permanent sharpie.

If you don't have all the glass don't start. A partly glazed greenhouse is very fragile.

Hey well done you,all advice given is great,to try and make things a bit easier,put a bit of strong sticky tap on each pit of glass,and mark with a permanent marker,you could use letters one side,and numbers on another,use different colours,either take some pics /draw a rough sketch, mark what no and colors represent what side,like left right,back front,same with roof,this will tell you where what bit goes,also the tape will allow you to clean the edges of the glass,oh and wear good cloves,we want NO accident from the glass or bits in the frame,good luck with it,you are brave.
