Joining greenhouses and base/foundation questions

Hi,

I've not posted on these forums for ages, but before all this coronavirus stuff kicked off I was planning on going full veggie patch again. It's just given me an even bigger push plus more free time.

Anyhow when I bought my house it had an old 6X8ft greenhouse which was in a bad way. I've cleared it out and removed as many broken panes as possible however I'm still a 5-10 panes short.
I mentioned this to the neighbor and he said I could have his 6x8ft greenhouse.

The quick fix would be to just swap out the old one with new one, however I like the idea of a mega greenhouse.

What's the best way to join two greenhouses together?

Also I've been turning a patch of lawn (ok its current 12ftx12ft and growing) so I've got a lot of turf.
Is it a bad idea to use the turf to level up the ground ready for a the second greenhouse?

I'd say have a measure up of the ends of both greenhouses first - if the widths and heights are different by no more than say 6" you could bodge them together with some boards screwed or bolted to the ends of both and some expanding foam to fill the inevitable gaps. Obviously leave the door ends to the outside ends and if you are happy that the whole lot is solid enough to take it, you could then take an angle grinder and cut an opening through so the two houses become one.

PS removing the glass form the one you get from your neighbour before you move it goes without saying I hope.

I forgot the mention the old greenhouse has sloping sides and the other one has straight which is going to make it s little tricker.

I'm fine with a bodge job so I'll give it a go.

I would keep the greenhouses seperate. That way you can keep one hotter/cooler/wetter/drier.

You're very welcome - hard to guess exactly the best way of proceeding, as a lot depends on what your ultimate aim is and how much work you're prepared to put into the project.

I suppose a Rolls-Royce version would involve some more aluminium angle to make joining struts from and some polycarb sheets cut to shape to fit the odd spaces between the two GH's - just the sort of odd, but interesting project I can envisage myself doing.

PS don't forget to allow for water-butt support, pipes etc if extending the existing cement base.

I agree with GF keeping them separate would seem like a better solution.

Instead of joining them end-to-end, could you put them side by side?
Or have the 2 doors facing each other with a "porch" in between to link them?

as VC says,it would make a nice little potting area,storage,if it lathe shelves,several up and down to,put the onions in to cure after picking,later in the season,also could use to get things accustomed to the outside earlier in the year,would make a very nice multiperpos area,that has given my brain another project on list of,like to do
