  • fleece - to touch or not to touch?

Does anyone have evidence to suggest that it gives plants better frost protection when fleece is touching or when it is kept away?

I have done both in the past, but I haven't really had to keep anything particularly tender alive!

I just wondered what the best use of it was, ideally.

I would say that it should be kept away from the plants as it will trap a layer of warmer air around it where as if it is touching you could get caught.

Fleece is often recommended to be laid loosely touching plants or seeds. It is supposed to be light enough to be lifted as the plants grow (providing it's not tightly anchored). Never used it myself, but I probably will next year as it seems to be the only thing that actually keeps cabbage white butterflies off the crops.

There's certainly lots of advice around about using it, and in many different ways.

        I'll do some more research...
