  • Greenhouse! Cheaper the better?

Hi all and as a newbie may I first thank everyone for various advice I've poached from the vine.

I'm after branching out to improve my growing potential this year so I'm after buying a greenhouse. I'd like to buy a 6ft x 10ft and have been stalking ebay for sometime without any luck. As time is getting on I have started looking around on the internet and have found one for £270ish does anyone know of any place selling cheaper?

    Thanks

    Matt

I've been scanning our lacal freecycles for months without any luck, no one is getting rid of greenhouses this time of year it seems.
If I was buying a newie, I think I'd like to see it 'in the flesh' before I handed any money over, I've seen some pretty flimsy cheap greenhouses that didn't look as if they'd stay up in a strong wind.
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

you could also try fridayads loot your local post office window if they still do that
but remember if its second hand you will neeed a day to take it down and a day to put it back up and proberbly need glass (it can get broke during transport) w clips z clips and nuts and bolts
we have has 2 free green houses
Need to get some glass asap cos i finaly got the second one up in the back

Hello and welcome to the vine keep It Green.

I had a brochure from Focus yesterday - they are selling their 6x8 greenhouse for 200 quid - I got one last year and it is super. I know it isn't as big as you would like though. Good luck finding one.

So is it a case of you get what you pay for when buying from new?

Keep an eye on your local papers. Freeads, Freecycle etc. People who've moved into a new property with a greenhouse often just want rid of it, and they get advertised as free to new home, collecter to dismantle. If you go down this route, remember to label the bits.

                    or even an ex-demo???

Yep- you really do get what you pay for as far as greenhouses are concerned. Look for sale bargains or 2nd hand if it's for a lottie. If it's for your garden..then push the boat a little ( it's Xmas after all - and better than a pile of bath salts/ perfume/ sexy underwear ( well only just!!!) and can be a joint pressi withOH)

Welcome to the Vine by the way...( we are all a bit in withdrawral syndrome at the mo...so bare/bear with us!!!)

I wouldn't expect any to be instores for the Jan sales (wrong season?) ... try the Autumn sales, after the main growing season.
You can place a "wanted" ad on Freecycle or eBay, see what comes up.
You could trawl round your neighbourhood looking out for greenhouses that seem neglected, and "make an offer".
Good luck, you'll never regret getting one

Haveyou tried Freecycle? I got one that way. Lots of people are only too glad to get rid of their unused greenhouse to fre some space in their garden.

I've checked my recent e-mails and it seems Santa has left a pesent in a most unexpected place. A free greenhouse to take away...... A reply to an add I posted on the Gumtree York website. I was made up as I was about to buy a new one (which I still might away - I could hide this one away and use the other as our main garden greenhouse).

Thanks to everyone who posted replies with advice on where to look etc. Hopfully it's paid off.

Gumtree & Freecycle haven't been that productive for me so next week I'm planning on just buying a brand new greenhouse. Thing is when I was looking in B&Q yesterday they had the standard glass one which is going to set me back over £300 or they had for about £100 cheaper a plastic one. Is there any differance in how good these both act. I don't mind paying for the glass one if it's going to be the better of the two in the long run but if there's little differance in them both well I'm obvioulsy going to go for the cheapest. :P
