  • Annual Cleaning Tips

I would be grateful to receive any guidance or suggestions regarding the best way to clean a 6'x8' greenhouse. We had some tomato blight last year (along with the rest of the population) and we would like to do our best to start the year 'clean'. So far we have bleached all glass and worktops but wonder what else we can do, I seem to recall reading about a fumigation device you can buy?

    Any thoughts welcomed.

You can buy sulphur candles to fumigate the greenhouse, DH, but I'm not sure what they zap. Think it's insecty things rather than fungal things, but someone with a (proper!) greenhouse will be along to advise further, I'm sure.

If you've got soil in the green house, I've heard that the blight will still be in the soil even when you've disposed of the infected plant and you need to change soil.

And the sulphur candles will kill anything including you so make sure all plants are out set it off then lock the door. Next day leave the doors and vents open and keep out for a couple of hours at least,

***** fluid is brilliant - can be used on soil (correctly diluted) as well as glass, frames, pots and trays. And I love the smell of it.

The candles will kill anything as Nick says - had a few weeds in mine when I set one off the other year and they were all very dead afterwards. Word of warning, can worry your neighbours if you're using them in the garden, ours asked if we were burning something the first time we used one as the smoke seeps out of the gaps!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
