Tips for securing greenhouse panes in wind?

Hi,
I've just moved and before my greenhouse stuff is even unpacked, I've lost 3. panes from the roof in high winds. Our neighbour thins that the door flew open and the shock did it as has been there fine for donkey's years. Has anyone anytips to really secure the new panes?

Is it a glass greenhouse or polycarbonate? (I think that's the right word)

We have a very windy garden at times and the first greenhouse we bought was one of the (we thought) sturdy poly ones but we always had trouble with the panels blowing out in the wind. Some of the time it was because the door blew slightly open but not always. Anyway in the end the wind won and flattened the whole thing.

We have a glass one now and have repositioned it so the door is in a different position, haven't had a pane blow out yet despite very blustery conditions this winter, the door slides open slightly now and again but panes stay put.

Fingers crossed I haven't jinxed it now

my green houses have got a hole drilled in the door runner so I can lock it with a padlock this stops the door blowing open and is probably the easyest way of keeping the door shut, you dont even have to use a lock it could just be a piece of bent wire or something.

To hold the panes of glass in the roof - could you use silicone sealant in the gaps/overlaps? I don't have a glass greenhouse, so I don't know if that's possible, but silicone is quite grippy, and flexible

Yes you can use silicone but I would advise just putting a couple of blobs on each side of the pane because if you need to change the pane at some point it will be a sod to remove if you silicone round the whole pane.

Hi,
thanks to replies. The greenhouse is a glass one. I'm going to check for holes now and my husband who wasn't about when posted agees that Silcone would be good and do-able. My last grenhouse was cheap, plastic and smaller, it took three days to put up but was solid. This is bigger and donkeys years old, it has lots of selving, a ceiling vent, (last one had an end window that would slip down a lot.)also light and a heater. I cannot wait to start using it. It took the whole morning to clear the glass and soggy moving boxes full of gardening paraphernalia.
