  • Coke Bottle Greenhouse

I came across this and would love to have a go. Has anyone out there tried it? A greenhouse made from Coke bottles.

I'm a teacher and could easily get hold of the bottles (please don't start ranting!).

That's fantastic! Just shows you what you can do with a bit of imagination. I wonder how they make it wind proof - Coke bottles surely don't fit snugly together?

I would have thought that one side, at least, would have to be strong plastic or bubble wrap - coke bottles don't tessellate that well. Great so see things being used for something imaginative though.

Nice. Probably would deflect rocks and stones better than panes of glass.

I really like that! Can't tell from the pic if it's what they've done but if you cut the base off each bottle and stacked them one on top of the other, they'd tesselate a lot better.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

Nah - it's a term use in quilting - for a shape that can be turned and fitted together tightly.

T'is what they've done. You can see on some of the close ups.

I've read instructions somewhere on how to build one of these, but they stacked the bottles on a bamboo cane, and then attatched the canes to the frame. Looking at the photos, this seems to be fixed in differently.
I had considered if, using the cane method, it would be possible/easier to make a small polytunnel type structure, what do you think?

Whats the light transmission like? The picture of toms growing in them didn't look very impressive.

It doesn't look that gloomy though - might be down to the growing skills...!!

I'd say as prototypes go, it's blummin impressive.

However, the thought of having to drink all that coke makes me feel a bit queasy!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
