Glazing mastic, help please.

I have aquired a secondhand aluminium greenhouse.
This was glazed using stainless steel clips and a mastic bead on which the glass sat.

The mastic, was a bit like bluetack and came packaged like plasticene, sheets embossed into strips. It was put on the top of a "Y" shaped protrusion on the bars, just wide enough for it.

I could run a bead of silicone sealant along, but I think it would be too runny and would ooze over the sides of the "Y" when the glass goes on, so I am looking for this stiffer plasticene type stuff.

Anyone rebuilt a house with this glazing method or who is aware of where to get replacement mastic?

Peter, try your local glazing company. They might have what you are looking for and if not will know the name of the stuff to use.

Try Two Wests or NA Kays. I'm sure one of them usesd to do a replacement Mastic exactly like this Peter.

You may have to phone Kays as they were re-doing their site the last time I looked & hadn't got everything on there.

My greenhouse is five year old and the glass was sealed with a silacone gun and also has clips holding it in. It was'nt a bit messy and has held the glass really well.

Run the siliconbead but place the glass the next day, that way it will sit on a cushion.

You might consider sticky backed foam strip instead of silicone if you can't find what you want, like draught excluder.
