Greenhouse shading

I have only just gone into greenhouse growing, and know that at some time that I'm going to need to install some shading.
I was looking at the green netting that seems the norm; but my question is should the shading reach from roof apex down to ground level, or should it stop at the staging level. I am growing tomatoes and cucumbers amongst the many flowers head gardener is planning.
The other questions is, is netting the best product for shading.

I've never bothered with shading and I've not seen any detrimental effects. I just make sure not to get water on the leaves as with direct sunlight it can work like a magnifying lens and burn the leaves. If you do decide to shade I guess you would only need it on the roof and depending on the orentation of the roof apex maybe only on the south side?

I think the key thing is ventilation so make sure you are on top of that if not already!

I don't shade mine either. It might be laziness! But the greenhouse is positioned such that next door's tree casts some shade during the day in the height of summer. I make sure the door is opened every morning and the roof vents are fully open too. Seems to work.

I was under the impression shade curtains went across the roof and down to floor level. I have yet to find the one I bought and install for Summer so thats no help to you.
I did use the paint on stuff over one roof and sides last Summer which worked quite well for me. However I did still get temps of 30-35C in there at times as I wasn't around all the time to vent it ( the GH is on an allotment not at home).
I did note that burnt leaves were also a problem hence the curtain purchase at end of season sale but do you think I can find it.
Good luck with your GH anyway - always a learning experience getting things tuned to your need.

My greenhouses orientation is north to south, so I get the sun on roof of the east side in the morning (garden fence next to it), and the whole of the west side in the afternoon when the sun (when we see it) is at its hottest.

I've strung my netting onto net-curtain wires, one along the top of the ridge & one at the bottom of the ridge to cover the sides. The top one can be slung over the top if the morning sun is hot enough () and both can be 'opened & shut'. Works well for me!
